Hotel in a former bank
Presentation
Practical information
Baroque, the Banke Hotel opened in the headquarters of a former diamond bank in the Opera district.
This opulent Haussmannian building has found a new life after being the headquarters of a diamond bank. Nothing less! Before becoming a 5*, it was also the headquarters of the CCF, until it was acquired by HSBC in 2006 and relocated to the Golden Triangle, on the Champs-Elysées Avenue.
Entering the theatrical lobby of the hotel, one finds the splendor of yesteryear emphasized by omnipresent gold and purple. Original elements, such as the bank counters and the magnificent glass dome crowning the porphyry columns, the reinforced glass staircase made by the students of Gustave Eiffel -a client of the bank-, or the Belle Époque elevator, are combined with contemporary furniture. The result is a touch flashy and baroque, like the large golden sofas and impressive chandeliers at the LolaBar and the Josefin restaurant where Franco-Spanish cuisine is divinely revisited.
On each floor, the Banke Hotel houses part of the private collection of Jordi Clos, owner of the Derby Hotel Collection. Ethnic jewelry from Papua New Guinea, China, India, and Tibet is presented to hotel and bar guests. This great art collector is also president of the Clos Archaeological Foundation-Egyptian Museum of Barcelona.
The rooms are contemporary with plenty of leather, wood, purple, and chocolate tones. Notable is the sublime Lafayette suite housed in the former circular offices of the bank's director and the rooms on the 6th floor offering views of the Sacré-Cœur.
A fun detail, the vault room can be privatized. 250 m2 amidst the bank's safes, all that's left is to find the excuse to organize a little evening.
Until then, when you pass by the Banke Hotel or a stone's throw from the Opéra Garnier and the Grands Boulevards, I bet you'll feel like stopping at the LolaBar (open daily from 10 a.m. to midnight, 1 a.m. from Thursday to Saturday) to have a coffee, a glass of champagne, or enjoy some tapas, you'll be greeted with a smile!
