Boutique Charming Hotel in Ubud
Presentation
Practical information
The time is suspended there... only the shrimps stir under the floor of your room!
In the peaceful central highlands of Bali, in a lush plantation outside of Ubud, 14 genuine Javanese bridal houses made of teak and hand-carved create a haven of peace on the banks of the Ayung River.
Originally, these unique bridal houses had a ritual and symbolic function. That was a hundred years ago. Since then, they have been restored in Bali by a creative couple, John Hardy and his wife Cynthia, to host their visiting family at Bambu Indah, which means beautiful bamboo in Indonesian. Decorated with charm and very poetic, they are now open to passing guests in this magical place overlooking emerald green landscapes with distant volcanoes.
Winding under small bridges to the natural pool -and its vine swing!-, a stream runs through the property. At its source, Udang House, the most incredible of the 14 houses, entirely made of teak and filled with fishing accessories.
And for good reason, under the glass floor of its bedroom, a freshwater shrimp pond!
A hamlet of centuries-old traditions, history, and artisans, Ubud has become an increasingly popular tourist town. Has cultural tourism raised the Balinese people's awareness of their culture? A perspective supported by anthropologist Michel Picard.
