In the footsteps of Joséphine de Beauharnais
Presentation
Practical information
An hotel for a mysterious woman.
Nicknamed Rose by her parents, Joséphine by Bonaparte, seductive, mysterious, elegant, she never ceased to be loved by the Emperor.
Daring the Hotel de JoBo (JOséphine BOnaparte) means diving into the universe that Joséphine de Beauharnais would have created today. Behind the heavy carriage door of historic Paris (4th arrondissement), a few steps from the Saint-Paul metro and Place des Vosges, Hotel de JoBo delights in blending styles and invites us into its world. Four themes for 24 rooms: La Merveilleuse adorned in toile de Jouy, La Gourgandine embraced by rosebuds, L'Incroyable draped in panther and teal blue tones, and La Sans-Culotte adorned with tricolor cockades. Wall hangings – reproductions from the iconic Frey house – Directory style codes, omnipresent roses reminding us of Joséphine’s passion, charming marble and mosaic bathrooms, an attention to detail choreographed in a style layering glamour and rock by decorator Bambi Sloan.
At any hour of the day or night, this place is perfect for meeting up. A tea room and cocktail bar open daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. (and available 24/7 to its lucky guests), efficient room service from noon to midnight, a sumptuous breakfast served until 11 a.m., only you are missing to write the next chapter.
Let’s talk history, shall we… The location of Hotel de JoBo on a priory of a 12th-century Gothic church takes us into the history of the Marais: a priory dedicated to Saint Catherine and entrusted to the Val-des-Écoliers order, built on fields just outside the walls of Philippe Auguste. Benefiting from the protection and donations of the Kings of France, notably Saint Louis, the priory continued to expand its crops up to the current Rue du Parc Royal to the north, Rue Elzévir to the east, and Rue de Turenne to the west. During the construction of Place du Marché Sainte-Catherine, the streets were redesigned, and Rue d'Ormesson and its neighbor Rue de Jarente were opened on the priory's lands.
Speaking of which: if you arrive via Rue de Sévigné, you’ll pass by Hôtel de Chavigny, transformed into a fire station by… Napoleon!
