Eco-lodge in Haute-Tarentaise
Presentation
Practical information
Boarding in the Tarentaise Valley for a journey to the lands of the great norths.
This mountain sheepfold near Bourg Saint-Maurice already belonged to her great-great-grandfather (1804), who raised sheep and pressed cider there. In the small traditional mountain village of Hauteville Gondon, Geneviève Mafayon has turned it into a guesthouse where she invites you on a journey to... the Great North.
Of course, heavy renovation work, real commitment, and strong skills—she is a space designer—were necessary for the hostess and her husband to create a cozy interior where modernity and tradition coexist with ease.
The decoration of the three rooms is inspired by the lands of the great north, their peoples, their animals, and their forests. Mountainous lands sometimes far away but always exotic, which this couple, passionate about nature, has explored.
In the Chalet Esprit Nature, an independent chalet of 75m2 on two levels, we enter the territory of the Laplanders, the Inuits, and the ice floes. Nature lovers will find themselves in the Suite Grand Nord, with animal paintings adorning the walls, or in the taiga forest in the Chambre Forestière.
Each guest room is equipped with a professional Canadian spa or a whirlpool bath and an infrared sauna. Natural materials have been chosen to meet ecological and decorative demands (faux furs, wood, tadelakt, stone, etc.), and the furniture is sourced from distant countries or created by local artisans.
Geneviève does everything possible to make her guests' stay harmonious and meaningful. Organic breakfasts await you in the Himalayan lounge with Afghan and Nepalese furniture. Natural teas, roasted coffee, high-quality honey and jams, seasonal fruits—perhaps from the orchard?—and even pancakes. She will gladly recommend a restaurant you will like or a snowshoe or bike ride in this beautiful Tarentaise valley, which she shares with great love.
These imaginary journeys make you want to set off to discover new horizons. What if we followed in the footsteps of Geneviève and her husband to join their humanitarian project in the Kumbu region of Nepal?
