Sleeping in a love hotel in Brussels
Presentation
Practical information
Surprise your Love, ask them to join you in this former Brussels 'meeting house'.
In a small hidden street in the Porte de Namur district, this 1930s hotel has witnessed many romantic encounters. Hidden from prying eyes, one-night lovers or secret affairs met in the utmost privacy of these beautiful and comfortable rooms.
Its founder, an architect, Gabriel Duhoux, had equipped the premises to facilitate circulation. A double elevator - originally one for going up, the other for going down -, the absence of a lobby, a pneumatic tube system for sending orders to the bar, and even a secret hideout in the basement (the story goes that when the hotel was requisitioned during World War II, this hideout sheltered escapees or parachutists).
In 2010, unable to find a buyer due to the extensive renovations needed, Hôtel Le Berger nearly disappeared, taking with it its past steeped in eroticism and its secrets so well kept by Fredy Martens, its manager since 1976. But that was without counting on the energy deployed by Isabelle Léonard, who managed at the last moment to find someone willing to bring this magical, history-laden place back to life.
After 18 months of renovations, the walls and partitions remained the same, the number of rooms identical, but comfort and safety were brought up to today's standards. This Art Deco landmark in Brussels retained a large number of original furniture pieces, open bathrooms and mirrors at the edge of bathtubs, suggestive decorations, dim lighting, and miraculously rediscovered period wallpapers.
All this old-world charm has been preserved by architect Olivia Gustot and designer Martina Nievergelt.
Thus, Hôtel Le Berger continues to host lovers for a lifetime or a night.
..:: 2017 ::.. in the courtyard adjoining Le Berger, a hotel from the same group invites you to cultivate your Secret Garden
