Unusual night aboard a Boeing 747
Presentation
Practical information
The 747 with the most breathtaking view in Costa Rica!
At first glance, it looks like this Boeing 747 landed here somewhat in an emergency...
It had been flying since 1965 under the colors of South Africa Air and Avianca Airlines and now offers a suite with a unique view of the rainforest canopy and the Pacific Ocean, with only sloths, toucans, and monkeys as neighbors!
The fuselage, found at San José airport, was installed 15 meters above the ground. You'll have to climb all the way up the spiral staircase to reach this surprising suite. Onboard the plane, entirely lined with wooden paneling (!), there are two air-conditioned bedrooms with bathrooms.
The rest of the hotel complex offers more conventional accommodations, but you won't want to miss dining or having a drink at El Avión, an airplane that serves as a bar-restaurant. The story of this plane, a Fairchild C-123, is one of the most incredible, as it was abandoned by the American government on Costa Rican soil when the Iran-Contra scandal broke out in 1986. This was the time when another Fairchild C-123 was shot down over Nicaragua with a CIA agent onboard.
