Unusual accommodation in Panama
Presentation
Practical information
A reserve of surprises, at the junction of the 2 Americas.
At the end of a small winding road starting from the town of Gamboa, a turquoise tower topped with a yellow globe resembling a football emerges. Originally built (1965) by the US Air Force as a radar tower to aid in the defense of the Panama Canal, the Canopy Tower now welcomes bird watchers from around the world captivated by the canopy of the tropical rainforest.
With its four floors and rooftop terrace amidst the trees, it is the dream location to observe the wildlife of Panamanian mammals and birds in their natural habitat. Howler monkeys, white-faced capuchins, hummingbirds, toucans, Geoffroy's tamarins, two-toed and three-toed sloths, anteaters, agoutis, and so much more! From this former military building, the view is exceptional: it overlooks the entrance to the Panama Canal, the Pacific Ocean, Panama City - just 25 km away - and, of course, the birds! More than 400 species of birds and 200 types of mammals live in Soberanía National Park.
The 12 rooms, from the suite to simple rooms sharing the bathroom, are spread over the top two floors of the tower, between 5 and 8 meters above the ground, at the level of leaves or treetops. A lovely transformation for this former military tower, which now allows one to retreat from civilization in a preserved forest.
