A night at the observatory under the stars
Presentation
Practical information
Would you ever have imagined spending a night at the summit, at the heart of the mythical Observatoire du Pic du Midi ?
Everything begins with a cable car ride through the mountains, departing from La Mongie, to reach the large terraces perched at 2877 m at the summit of the Pic du Midi.
The magic of the place operates as soon as you arrive: a spectacular 360° view of the Pyrenees mountain range. In front of you, more than 400 km of panorama, iconic sites - such as the Brèche de Roland, the Monte Perdido - and the sunset. You might have the privilege of seeing vultures, chamois, or even bearded vultures soaring; observing these majestic birds is an unforgettable experience.
After discovering constellations and planets in this planetarium, a passionate professional from the Ferme des Etoiles (Fleurance, Gers) will guide you behind the scenes. With them, you will access the Charvin dome, its telescope, and exclusively the domes of the scientific quarters, which are usually inaccessible to the public.
The evening continues with a gastronomic dinner featuring local flavors, and the night is yours. In this high place of scientific research (since 1880), researchers give you access to the rooms they originally occupied. The facilities have been completely redesigned to welcome the public, and everything is provided to offer you the best comfort (private bathroom).
Make the most of this night because tomorrow morning you will see the sun rise, and who knows, its mysterious green flash?
✯ Annual closure from early November to late December ✯

Comments
Common sense... As a high mountain site, the Pic du Midi is not recommended for young children, pregnant women, and individuals with heart conditions.Good to know! The site of the Observatoire du Pic du Midi is independently accessible for people with reduced mobility or disabilities (cable car, terraces, interpretation tables, restaurant, museum, restrooms, etc). However, access to the floors of the rooms involves a staircase, which is not suitable for people with reduced mobility.
