Your room overlooks the beach, nestled at the top of a baobab.

Half an hour by plane from Dar Es Salaam, with a dirt runway serving as the airport, you land on Mafia Island, one of the islands in the Zanzibar archipelago.
On the other side of the bay, Chole Island hides the Chole Mjini Lodge, certainly one of the most surprising ecolodges in Tanzania.

Six houses built with natural materials on stilted platforms are nestled and hidden by the branches of baobabs and flamboyant trees that embrace them.

Here, all the necessary comfort is provided, but you will find neither air conditioning nor fans because there is no electricity... Storm lanterns will light your room, the sitting area on your terrace, or the children's loft. A lovely garden at the foot of your cabin will offer privacy while you take an outdoor shower, but with hot water - mind you - thanks to a clever burner system that you will light yourself.
Naturally, the view is splendid of the sea, the mangrove, or the lush vegetation.

Fish and seafood caught offshore, fruits and vegetables grown on the island, coconut milk, spices, the cuisine is local and flavorful.

This lodge was built to be ecologically sustainable and to benefit the local population through this sustainable tourism. A kindergarten/primary school and a dispensary have already been constructed.
