Underwater room on Pemba Island
Presentation
Practical information
Underwater room in the Indian Ocean, an invitation to sleep among the fish in the heart of the Zanzibar archipelago.
Off the eastern coast of Tanzania, Pemba Island is a dreamlike piece of paradise emerging from the Indian Ocean.
It is in this splendid natural setting that The Manta Resort has unveiled a unique new room, the very first underwater room in Africa, waiting for you in the Zanzibar archipelago.
Behind this creation is Mikael Genberg, both a Swedish artist and entrepreneur, the very same who opened Hôtel Utter Inn on a lake near Stockholm. By adapting his concept of living underwater for the second time, he aims to develop these underwater rooms around the world.
Anchored 250 meters from the beach, our all-wood underwater room consists of 3 levels. A large rooftop terrace to lounge in the sun, admire these transparent, blue-green, turquoise, azure waters (here all the blues blend together!), the dhows, the turtles, the sunset or sunrise; everything is beautiful. At sea level, a lounge and bathroom, and finally, 4 meters below the sea level, a double bed surrounded by trumpetfish, parrotfish, and squids. Nick, a trumpetfish, has already made a home on the other side of your windows.
Or perhaps, in the end, you will choose to retreat and sleep under the starry sky?
