In the heart of the Hôtel-Dieu in Paris
Presentation
Practical information
An unknown place to Parisians themselves and yet this hotel is unique in France.
At the 6th floor of the Hôtel Dieu, the oldest Parisian hospital (651), a hotel with 14 rooms welcomes both foreign tourists and 'outpatient' patients.
Tourists appreciate the reasonable price of the room and the ideal location on the Île de la Cité, between its Reine Elisabeth II flower market and the Notre-Dame Cathedral.
The independent hotel makes its business profitable by hosting visitors. So the question arises, why would hospital patients sleep at the hotel in the hospital?
Perhaps to stay on-site in the hospital itself, but accompanied by a relative and thus avoid a round trip before the follow-up appointment often scheduled for the day after a procedure? Oh yes, the room is at their expense.
The origin of this experience comes from a doctor at the Hôtel-Dieu traveling to the United States in the early 90s who brought the concept back in his luggage.
The prohibitive cost of rooms in American hospitals led to the opening of hotels in front of the hospitals, to accommodate the patient at a reasonable price.
The future of the Hôtel-Dieu is uncertain, a restructuring project proposes to develop outpatient care there and to eliminate beds. This no longer falls under our section, but we are still interested ツ
