InterContinental Marseille - Hotel Dieu

InterContinental Marseille - Hotel Dieu

Luxury hotel near the Old Port

Presentation Practical information
The Hotel Dieu spans history and offers one of the most beautiful views of the Old Port.

Like the iconic Panier district in which it is located, the Hôtel-Dieu is closely linked to the city of Marseille.

Founded in the Middle Ages under the name of Hôpital du Saint-Esprit, it was expanded for the first time in the 18th century. After more than a century of works and an inauguration by Napoleon III, it retained its role as a hospital until the departure of the last patients. This was in 1993, just before it opened its doors for ten years to nursing students.

All these eras have left testimonies, some of which are listed in the Historical Monuments register. Excavations revealed the remains of a 12th-century chapel buried under the hotel's gardens and a bronze-smelting furnace, and the rehabilitation works restored the grandeur of the majestic staircases with wrought iron railings, the vaulted exterior walkways, and the 18th-century facades.
The exterior walkways have become terraces extending from the rooms and suites, offering views of the Old Port and the Bonne Mère. A new perspective on Marseille, which can also be enjoyed from the large terrace (750m2) accessible from the Le Capian bar and the Les Fenêtres brasserie. Perfect for a daytime break or nighttime retreat!

194 rooms and suites, a bar, a brasserie, the Michelin-starred gastronomic restaurant L'Alcyone (awarded in 2014), and a spa by Clarins, the venue has been brought back to life as a 5* hotel.
Interior designer Jean-Philippe Nuel drew inspiration from Marseille and Provence. Slate and white-colored walls echo the Major Cathedral, Cassis stone, and multiple references to the Mediterranean.

With its new function as a hotel, and just like the nearby Mucem, the InterContinental Marseille - Hotel Dieu is now part of the new face of the Phocean city.
