Original guesthouse in Marseille

Practical information
A unique night... in the back shop.
Sparkling destination, exotic getaway, Marseille is on the rise and it suits her well. In this city of contrasts and colors, a timeless bed and breakfast opened at the beginning of 2017.
Exiting the metro in front of the Old Port, all you have to do is walk up the Canebière to Cours Saint-Louis (*) and rue des Récolettes to discover this long brown storefront with white letters. Here we are in front of Maison Empereur, a hardware-cutlery store that has been at the same location for over 190 years. In 1827, could François Empereur have imagined that this place would become a true institution, now overseen by Laurence Renaux-Guez, the 7th generation?
In this store, where the walls have stories to tell, Laurence Renaux-Guez champions the art of living, the love of beauty and artisanal craftsmanship, as well as the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label (to which she will soon dedicate a museum). The Maison Empereur catalog is an inventory of professional references à la Prévert, rare objects made by old factories, or unusual and mysterious items. Time stretches here, and an eclectic clientele strolls happily through this labyrinth, among the household, drugstore, hardware, or cutlery aisles. After climbing the steps of the grand wooden staircase, you enter the world of decor and reissued vintage games. Traditional clothing that transcends fashion trends has recently acquired its own boutique just a few meters from the main house.
So, for Empereur enthusiasts, Laurence Renaux-Guez has designed an astonishing bed and breakfast. Just like in our wildest dreams, tonight we have the permission to stay after closing. On the second floor of the store, a unique apartment - and its winter garden - tells the story of the Empereur adventure. A journey through time with photos, archives, and curiosities selected by the hostess of the place. Memories, brown and sepia tones, wood, blacksmith tools, scents of the past, so many signatures reminding Empereur lovers that they are indeed sleeping in the back of the shop.
Personal message...
Returning from your getaway in the radiant city, nothing beats a dozen sea urchins enjoyed on the go directly at Toinou's bar, the illustrious neighbor!
Unless you take a walk to the Panier for a half-and-half at Etienne's ツ
✯ Open all year round ✯
(*) for the record, it is here, on Cours Saint-Louis, that the first santons fair took place in the early 19th century.
