Sleep in an unusual place in Marseille

Practical information
The spirit of Le Corbusier more alive than ever. Try the Cité Radieuse.
The Radiant City, we owe it to Le Corbusier.
A man of letters, architect, urban planner, and decorator born in the French-speaking part of Switzerland ;-)
A housing unit for Le Corbusier, this concrete block on stilts is a vertical village with 337 apartments incorporating all the collective facilities necessary for daily life. With its streets, daycare center and school, shops, library, and even its hotel designed from the outset by the architect.
Known worldwide, listed as a historical monument, The Radiant City reconnects with contemporary art. On the rooftop terrace that Le Corbusier imagined to house an open-air gym and a small children's pool, all perched at 56 meters above sea level with one of the city's most beautiful views, Ora-Ito has set up an art center open to all, the MaMo.
When this gym, closed since 2010, was put up for sale, this talented designer, a great admirer of Le Corbusier and a native of Marseille, embarked on its acquisition and created the MaMo, a contraction of Marseille Modulor and a nod to the Moma in New York.
In the summer, the rooftop terrace features an exclusive exhibition by a prominent contemporary artist, and in winter, more intimate exhibitions, workshops, and creative laboratories. After the carte blanche given to Xavier Veilhan in the summer of 2013, Ora-Ito opened the MaMo to Daniel Buren, Dan Braham, and Felice Varini. For 2019, a new very beautiful exhibition has been announced: opening on June 8.
The Mucem and the MaMo, two arty excuses to plan a getaway to the south.
Head to the hotel of the Radiant City, go to the 3rd floor, and find the room that suits you to admire Marseille and the Frioul islands. Alone, as a couple, or with family, with a sea or park view, each of the 21 rooms tells us about the aesthetics and functionality as seen by Le Corbusier (all details in the Practical Information tab).
To learn more about the 'Maison du Fada' and the four other Housing Units built after the Second World War in Briey-en-Forêt, Rezé-lès-Nantes, Firminy, Berlin, visit the website of the Radiant City.
