Unusual hotel in Sicily
Presentation
Practical information
Art rooms to discover in the heart of a museum hotel.
Beginning of the 1980s, Antonio Presti, a Sicilian and already a young art collector, dedicated a monument to the memory of his father. He identified a location at the mouth of La Fiumara de Tusa, a river on the coast between Messina where he was born and Palermo where he studied.
Very quickly, the project evolved, became larger, and Presti devoted his energy and resources to this open-air contemporary art museum, the Sculpture Park Fiumara d’Arte. Initially supported by local authorities, they eventually withdrew their support, and Antonio Presti was ordered to demolish for unauthorized construction. The trials lasted 23 years.
In the meantime, pursued by the controversies surrounding him, he decided to settle a few kilometers away, facing the sea. In Castel di Tusa, a charming seaside village, he purchased a 40-room hotel and entrusted the decoration of each room to an artist, convinced that Art should not be seen but experienced from within.
Art Hotel Atelier Sul Mare was born.
In 1990, the artist Mario Ceroli took over the first Art Room, which he named The Mouth of Truth.
Today, alongside the 20 standard rooms spread over three floors, 16 Art Rooms are available to us.
