Lodges and cabins in Guadeloupe
Presentation
Practical information
Happy paradise for birds.
Sheltered by the tendacayous, birds whirl and improvise serenades. In this large garden overlooking the bay of Deshaies, among the twenty or so species present, the undisputed kings are the hummingbirds, whose three species from the Lesser Antilles have found refuge in the garden of Sophie and Matthieu, nesting in the treetops and finding an ideal pantry in the garden where banana leaves, red anthuriums, yellow heliconias, or white hibiscus delight them. Their incessant ballet brings iridescent touches of color among this dense and varied vegetation. Hidden among this lush vegetation, eight colorful cottages and villas - some with sea views and private pools - host happy vacationers, and three Creole huts and a perched cabin made entirely of wood blend in, as if to further envelop us in this paradise for birds. While it’s easy to find oneself here as a couple, this experience can also be enjoyed as a family, with the cabin and one hut accommodating up to four people.
A must-see during your stay on Basse-Terre, the Deshaies Botanical Garden (formerly Coluche's property) is adjacent to Au Jardin des Colibris, and the Grande Anse beach, with its white sand and coconut trees, will captivate you just as much.
In 2015, Au Jardin des Colibris became the first tourist establishment in Guadeloupe classified as a refuge by the French League for the Protection of Birds (LPO). This recognition was complemented by the Esprit Parc label in 2016, which highlights conservation efforts in Guadeloupe National Park.
For more than 10 years, this family has been committed to preserving the exceptionally fragile ecosystem that surrounds them and involving their guests in their efforts. In 2018, for every night spent on-site, Au Jardin des Colibris committed to planting a cacao tree on the neighboring island of Haiti. The goal: 1,000 trees to contribute to the creation of an organic cocoa industry.
A wonderful initiative that reminds us that everyone can take action, contribute to biodiversity, and... change the world.
