Old road roller caravan
Presentation
Practical information
Stay in a historic caravan at the foot of the Cévennes.
The caravans, these nomadic habitats that traveled through our regions, carried families and trades.
Grinders, basket makers, tinners, musicians, traveling merchants, or glaziers, we often remember them, but who recalls the road rollers that once roamed the roads?
This little-known trade involved driving the steam and later diesel rollers to flatten our roads in the early 20th century.
Like a construction site cabin, the caravan followed the roller as the construction progressed and found a spot to stay for a few days, on a village square or with a generous host.
An authentic road roller caravan from the 1950s enjoys peaceful days in the countryside between Alès and Uzès. Furnished with retro items and decorated with photographs belonging to Rosalie, the great-grandmother of its current owner, in the evening it lights up with colorful string lights. A guinguette atmosphere for a candlelit dinner at the foot of the Cévennes.
Renovated to combine charm and comfort, the caravan offers a small bedroom, an alcove for the double bed, a shower, and a beauty area nestled in a closet (toilet, sink, mirror). Heated in winter, cool in summer, there’s no season to miss discovering it!
