Practical information
From the brewery to the thermal hotel, the transformation of an industrial site.
In Zurich, everyone knows the Hürlimann brewery, unmistakable from afar with its brick chimney.
And for good reason, Hürlimann became the first Swiss brewer in 1880!
Beer brewing ended in 1996, but the story of this iconic industrial site has been beautifully told by the Zurich-based architectural studio Althammer Hochuli.
The Hürlimann brewery used water from the Aqui spring to brew its beer. Today, this thermal water supplies a water park where you can relax thanks to its minerals in water temperatures ranging from 35 to 41 degrees.
Head below the hotel, where the oak barrels once holding beer have given way to vast wooden pools, a world of thermal baths to enjoy in many forms. Revitalizing jets, whirlpool seats, massage lanes, a steam bath, a Kneipp area, and even a meditation pool with underwater music. On the rooftop, a monumental open-air pool offers you a breathtaking view of Zurich with the snow-capped Alps as a backdrop.
The former brewing hall now houses bright, spacious, and stylish rooms with open bathrooms. The cooling tank has been transformed into a stunning two-level suite, the Hürlimann suite.
The site's history is also told through chandeliers made of beer bottles and in the 33,000 books of the very welcoming Wine Library (open 24/7) or the machine hall (370 m2, listed) which hosts openings and exhibitions.
