Fortress in Haute Provence
Presentation
Practical information
Guardian of the gates of Verdon, the Trigance fortress also watches over its chivalrous history.
From its rocky spur, the medieval Château de Trigance watches over the gates of Verdon and its wild landscape, just as it did from the 13th century, guarding the inhabitants who gathered at its feet. Its past still holds some secrets.
For some, the monks of the Abbey of Saint-Victor in Marseille would have built this fortress of meditation in the 9th century, while others believe that the château was not constructed until later in the 11th century. With its chivalrous history -rich as it should be until the Revolution- the fortress takes us on the trail of the Templars. A journey through time in Dracénie begins as soon as you step through the door: canopy bed, wall tapestry, and coat of arms, the 8 rooms and suites of the fortress await only a modern-day knight.
Having breakfast -served until 11 am- on the crenellated terrace overlooking the village is a must because the site is exceptional. Between fragrant hills and Provençal light, the village is picturesque for those who love stepped alleys, vaulted passages, wells, and several chapels, including the parish church of St. Michael (15th century) with its square bell tower.
All the charm of a perched Provençal village just 20 minutes from the fabulous Verdon Gorges.
✯ Open from mid-April to late October ✯
