Sleeping in a military fortress in Switzerland
Presentation
Practical information
Held secret for many years, the artillery fortress is being transformed into a hotel: a first!
This is an artillery fortress kept secret for many years. It was carved into the Rigi massif during World War II to support the Gotthard fortress. In 1998, it transitioned to civilian life, and since then, visitors have discovered ammunition depots, casemates, and other galleries during guided tours.
Go there with a group (minimum 15 people) to enjoy the comfort of the dormitories, the former officers' rooms, and the Commander's quarters.
And for those who just want to take a quick tour during the day, Festung Vitznau organizes guided tours. Booking available on their website or through Vitznau Tourist Office.
