Former central prison of Lucerne
Presentation
Practical information
New start for the Löwengraben prison.
In the heart of the historic old town, this building from 1862 still housed Lucerne's central prison in the fall of 1998. 10 years later, in 2008, the Jail Hotel Löwengraben opened its doors: the first prison hotel in Switzerland!
With the reopening of the hotel, today Barabas Luzern, the 60 rooms and suites have gained in comfort. The cells still feature many original elements such as the bars on the windows or the heavy wooden doors behind which one sleeps three, four, or six, depending on the room category.
Located in the library and the Director's office, the suites are also more welcoming. The Barabas Suite is named after an artist and conscientious objector who was detained until 1975. On the walls of his cell, he painted everything he missed. Women, wine, money, and women. A painting still adorns the walls of his cell.
This former prison is undoubtedly the most unusual accommodation you can find in Lucerne!
..:: New in 2019 ::.. Opening of a double room with Japanese-inspired decor
✯ Open all year round ✯
