Het Arresthuis

A prison in the 19th century, a popular hotel in the 21st century.

With its square façade and barred windows, this building in the historic center of Roermond (in the south of the Netherlands) gives some clues about its original function.
From 1862 to 2007, the residents of Het Arresthuis would probably never have imagined what this former detention house would become. No more guards or directors either!

In the places they occupied not so long ago, since 2011, they have been replaced by visitors of a new kind. Suites with evocative names have been set up in the Director's apartments and in the sports rooms: Judge Suite, Lawyer Suite, Director Suite, Jailer Suite.
The deluxe rooms (Deluxe Cell) are located in the common areas of the prison, while the double rooms (Comfort Cell) have been created from three cells and have retained the heavy door that testifies to the past of the premises.

Each of the 40 rooms (24 standard, 12 deluxe, and 4 suites), modern and elegant, offers top-notch amenities. Sauna, gym, and restaurant are also universally praised. Good to know!
