Sleeping above the void, three dizzying suites in Amsterdam.
July 2013, the 'industrial wastelands' of Amsterdam's most prominent district, NDSM for Nederlandse Dok en Scheepsbouw Maatschappij (Dutch Dock and Shipbuilding Company), experienced a very particular commotion. In 3 days, crane no. 13 was completely dismantled (video) to be restored to its original state and transformed into a unique hotel.
In this industrial monument, three suites – Mystique, Secret, and Free Spirit – with contemporary design and a jacuzzi are suspended between 35 and 45 meters above the Ij River. Dizzying, especially since the view constantly changes, as the crane still rotates with the effect of the wind…
Each suite transports you into its own unique atmosphere, from an evocation of the Orient to a port loft spirit, with décor created by renowned artists and interior designers. In these 36 m2 of luxury and technology, the bedroom and bathtub are on a mezzanine, while the bathroom and living room are on the main level.
To get some fresh air and admire the urban landscape, an incredible jacuzzi awaits guests even higher up.
Thrill-seekers, you won't miss out on the leap into the void. A free fall of several dozen meters with a swing oscillation of at least 90 meters under the supervision of certified instructors.
