Sleeping in a lighthouse in Netherlands
Presentation
Practical information
What do you think of an old lighthouse to spend an unusual night?
In the north of the Netherlands, overlooking the old Harlingen harbor, a white lighthouse dating from 1920 opens up to us for a unique experience.
'For centuries, sailors looked at the lighthouse. Now it is from the lighthouse that we gaze at the sea,' summarizes Piet Beuker, the last keeper who watched over the lighthouse and approaching ships from 1970 to February 1998.
Standing 24m tall, it impresses. With a pounding heart, we enter and climb the first few dozen steps. On the first of three floors, a luxurious bathroom with a circular shower. A few more steps, and we find ourselves in "the tower room," a comfortable observation post from where the North Sea can be admired even from our bed! A 360° view of the old harbor, the sea, and the nearby islands of Terschelling and Vlieland, it's absolutely fantastic.
A final staircase, steeper this time, leads us to the "lantern room," from where the signals were sent. Tonight, we will have dinner there, just the two of us!
