Phare de Kerbel

Sleeping in a lighthouse in Brittany

Presentation Practical information
Sleep at the top of the lighthouse and wake up facing infinity

Don't look any further, there aren't 36 solutions for sleeping in a lighthouse in France! Since 2007, only the Phare de Kerbel offers you the unique opportunity to spend the night at the top of the tower, in place of the optical system. Needless to say, the view will be panoramic and magical! Enjoy the sunrise over the Quiberon Peninsula, an aperitif facing Groix Island, and the sunset over the bay of Lorient and the Petite Mer de Grâves.

Since 1913, the same spiral staircase with its 125 granite steps has been climbed to access the top of the lighthouse. Once, it housed the lantern that guided sailors. Honorine Le Guen took care of it throughout her life; she was the first woman to operate a petroleum vapor light. In a few minutes of footage recorded in 1983 to rediscover on the website of the Phare de Kerbel, Honorine Le Guen shares a beautiful testimony and sparks our curiosity about the lives of lighthouse keepers.

Today, the lantern has been replaced by a fully glazed rotunda, a precious haven 30 meters above the sea that houses the studio at the top of the lighthouse. The ingenious movable floor system, which also serves as an entrance door, was installed by Mr. Jégat, the first owner of the lighthouse, who purchased it at auction in 2003. Since 2018, the Bergson family continues to care for the lighthouse, and Mrs. Muin looks after its guests.

During your stay at the Phare de Kerbel, you will have exclusive use of the property: the Lighthouse Studio, the Keeper's House, the Oil Room, the garden with its pool, and the sauna installed in the former lantern.
