Sleeping in a lighthouse in Sweden
Presentation
Practical information
A lighthouse on a rocky island off Gothenburg.
Red, red, red ... and blue as far as the eye can see!
At the border between the Kattegat and Skagerrak seas, on the west coast north of Gothenburg, in one of the windiest places in Sweden, a rocky island guided ships through turbulent waters from 1868 to 1977.
4 miles off the coast of Marstrand, a few colorful houses and a towering lighthouse dominate the scene. Welcome to the tiny island of Hamneskär - 250 meters long and 120 meters wide - to stay in this legendary lighthouse.
The complete renovation of the keeper's house, entrusted to the Swedish design agency Stylt Trampoli, has enhanced the original charm of Gustav von Heidenstam's buildings into an intimate hotel perfectly isolated from the rest of the world, where the menu highlights the catch of the day, seafood, and algae-based specialties.
And if a guest wishes to sleep under the stars, a king-size bed can be set up on the cliffs facing the sea.
✯ Open from mid-March to the end of October ✯
