Sleeping in a former prison in Oxford
Presentation
Practical information
To play the bad boys in Oxford.
1h30 from London, Oxford is a picturesque city, well known for its romantic spires, its universities, and its castle.
To walk in the footsteps of William the Conqueror, nothing beats a guided tour of the historical buildings, of course. But did you know that today, bars, restaurants, museums, and shows, all these nightlife spots have found a place around the castle and its former prison?
Ironically, nearly 1000 years after being a place of sorrow, people now come here to party just 5 minutes from the city center.
Since the prison's permanent closure in 1996, cells and quarters have been transformed into luxurious rooms. In Wing A, three adjacent cells have been converted into a room. Thick walls, low ceilings, the doors and balconies remain unchanged, except for a few details. Security (for the guests!) is enhanced by the presence of a glass panel along the dizzying walkways, and the peepholes on the iron doors of the cells have been reversed, which is easy to understand.
Leather, black, tartan, and clever details reference the troubled past of the place, you either love or hate this very first prison transformed into a hotel in the United Kingdom.
