Unusual night in the hortillonnages
Presentation
Practical information
Unique: a cabin-house and its private jetty hidden in the Hortillonnages of Amiens.
Do you know the Hortillonnages of Amiens?
In the heart of nature, a maze of "rieux" - the small canals in Picard - crisscross 300 hectares of gardens and ponds.
On one of these former market gardening estates, three friends from Amiens, Laure, Aude, and Emmanuel, are working on the rehabilitation of five truly unique house-cabins and offer you the only opportunity to discover the Hortillonnages from the inside, which are too rarely open to the public.
For this eco-responsible domain, they have embraced solar energy for electricity, a wood stove for heating, and a natural filtration garden for wastewater.
The first two house-cabins welcomed visitors in April 2014. Since April 2016, there are now five, and the 6th will soon follow. These Hortillonnages houses, which fill us with happiness in the middle of a secret garden, are arranged as holiday cottages, each with a kitchen, living room, and bathroom, hosting 2 to 6 people.
All can also function as guest rooms if we wish: Laure brings us baskets of local products and Picard specialties for breakfast and dinner. A delight, according to everyone!!
Private fishing dock and boat, fishing or observation gear, bikes—everything is at our disposal to make our visit to the floating gardens of Amiens a moment of relaxation and discovery, just steps away from the cathedral and city center.
Good to know, every year in June, the water market is held to relive the atmosphere of the hortillons of yesteryear. Visit the Amiens Tourist Office website to plan your Picard getaway.
..:: April 2016 ::.. Hôtels Insolites goes green for 3 days to experience it. In our house-cabin "Au Marais," we are at peace and surrounded by nature, ducks, and squirrels passing by. From our lovely rooms overlooking the marsh, we feel like adventurers aboard a boat. Although the true adventure may have been our first outing by boat in the Hortillonnages... Racket games, exploring the "rieux" by boat, fishing sessions, bike rides, barbecue in the garden—time flows happily here.
Relive this beautiful experience here.
..:: New for 2017 ::.. European eco-label awarded to the domain for its environmental approach, congratulations!

A 15-minute walk from the cathedral and the Saint-Leu district. Did you know that from Lille it takes only 1h30 to reach Amiens?
And just a little more from Reims (1h40)! From Paris, 1h30 as well.
