Alpinhotel Grimsel Hospiz

Alpinhotel Grimsel Hospiz

Historic hotel in the Canton of Bern

Presentation Practical information
Feeling of exception at 2000m altitude

The first tourists were not wrong in praising the wild landscapes of the Grimsel, which became a classic Swiss travel destination in the 18th century.
Until the 19th century, it remained one of Switzerland's main Alpine passes, always connecting the regions of the eastern Oberland and central Switzerland with the markets of Lombardy and Piedmont. A safe route that played a role in the development of trade (wine, rice, corn, oil for tools) and the export of cheese!
Records show a first hospice in 1142, but the current building dates back to the construction of the dam, with the granite hotel with red shutters then housing the miners. It was the first house heated thanks to electricity! Even today, the heating comes from the lost heat of the electric dam.

With its fortress-like appearance perched on its rocky spur on the Nollen (1980 m), the hotel takes you back in time. A sense of isolation is heightened when snow or mist brings that extra magic. In winter, the hotel also organizes your arrival because two cable cars and an underground funicular will be necessary.

The 4* hotel is a haven of peace with 28 rooms renovated in the 1930s style. From the fireplace corner, the view plunges over the Grimsel dam and its lake. Magical.
