Unusual night at the zoo
Presentation
Practical information
Tranquil safari in the heart of a wildlife haven.
Embark on a safari, sure… but while luxuriating in a bathtub or a plush bed. Jamala Wildlife Lodge offers you a luxurious stay close to wild animals.
In Canberra, nature and its inhabitants are waiting to welcome you.
Since 1998, Richard and Maureen, the owners of the Canberra Aquarium and Zoo, have been committed to wildlife protection. They take in hundreds of animals whose circus careers have ended or whose owners have grown tired of them, offering them a place of tranquility where our animal friends live almost in complete freedom.
In the heart of this wildlife haven, Richard and Maureen have set up a rather unique hotel. Guests only take possession of their rooms after being greeted by lemurs, colobus monkeys, or red pandas. Some travelers won’t mind sleeping in front of the glass wall where the lion comes to rest. Others will enjoy watching the fish through the giant aquarium wall that serves as their bedroom divider. Before dinner, which combines oceanic and African flavors, guests are treated to an aperitif on the terrace of the uShaka Lodge: the sophisticated decor plays up the exotic theme.
When the animals are hiding, don’t hesitate to call on the guides. Always available, they will calmly lead you to the enclosures to enjoy the company of the animals without disturbing them.
