Unusual youth hostel in Iceland
Presentation
Practical information
From a biscuit factory to the trendiest hostel in Reykjavik.
Spotted by Icelandic director Oskar Thor Axelsson and his friends Kristinn Vilbergsson and Dagur Sigurdsson, this former biscuit factory initially served as the set for the film Black’s Game.
Charmed by the building, full of ideas, they quickly decided to turn it into a place that reflects them and where they’d like to hang out.
A club, a bar (Drinx), a lodging place, Kex Hostel is all of that combined.
In an industrial yet warm atmosphere full of character, it also features a restaurant (Sæmundur í Sparifötunum), a delightfully retro hair salon, a gym, an information desk and meeting room, a laundry room, two shared kitchens, a heated outdoor terrace, rooms and dormitories (43 rooms). All that for a reasonable budget in Iceland (starting at €18 for a dorm bed).
From a 16-person dormitory to single or double rooms, the offerings are comprehensive and the view is stunning, overlooking the ocean or the mountains on the other side of Faxaflói Bay.
Note: free accommodation for children under 6 years old and a 50% discount up to 12 years old. You’ll need to find another excuse to leave them at home...
