Sleeping in a historical site in Franche-Comté
Presentation
Practical information
Take a seat in the utopia of an 18th-century architect in Arc-et-Senans.
The Doubs preserves sites as precious as they are varied throughout its territory. A range of outdoor activities to make even the most athletic envious, spectacular landscapes such as the sources of the Lison and the Loue, the land of Gustave Courbet, and significant historical heritage such as the fortifications of Vauban's citadel in Besançon and the Saline Royale d'Arc et Senans.
Visiting the salines is truly magnificent. If the architecture of its buildings is more renowned than the salt extraction activity that was housed there for nearly 1200 years, it gives you an idea of the beauty of the place. And the symbols of this 'Ideal City'.
Responding to a royal commission from Louis XV, Claude Nicolas Ledoux wanted "the shape of the saline to be as pure as that described by the sun in its course." Indeed, one by one, each of the eleven beautiful limestone buildings lights up, and the sun lingers on the central house, the Director's residence.
The Saline is one of the rare sites listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (1982) that offers you the opportunity to stay overnight. With the silence and calm restored once the last visitors have left, the night lighting, and the sunrise over the gardens, you will feel privileged to stay in one of the 31 3* rooms located in the buildings of the Guards, the Gabelle, or Berniers.
✯ Open from March 1 to October 31 for individual bookings and all year round for groups of more than 15 people ✯
