Former Portuguese train station in Alentejo
Presentation
Practical information
A magical place, an address to cherish as this guesthouse is so unique.
Marvão-Beira was the last Portuguese train station before the Spanish border, and it is now listed as architectural heritage. Thanks to it, we can dive back into the past of this region: the construction of the Lisbon-Madrid line at the end of the 19th century and the richness of its sumptuous polychrome azulejos painted on the façade by Jorge Colaço. They date back to the time when the Portuguese Railway Company expanded the entrance hall to accommodate passengers waiting for connections and depict several national monuments, the regional costumes of Marvão, and the beaches of Figueira da Foz and Nazaré.
Restored with great taste into a guesthouse in 2013, Train Spot offers a charming place to discover a region far from mass tourism.
The São Mamede Natural Park is a destination to relax, encounter authentic Portuguese traditions, and discover the history of this beautiful preserved region of Alentejo, between the Roman city of Ammaia and medieval castles like Marvão, this magnificent fortified medieval village on its spur at 860 meters altitude, a must-see for its flower-adorned white houses and picturesque streets surrounded by walls.
In this very special guesthouse, fado and flamenco concerts are organized on the railway tracks. A whole art of living.
