Unusual night in a former tramway
Presentation
Practical information
New journey for the tram nantais.
Over the years, Guillaume Staub, the visionary owner of the Haut-Village campsite near Pornic, has been expanding his collection of unique accommodations. And modes of transport hold a special place here. Among the most remarkable creations that amaze both children and parents exploring this extraordinary world is car no. 366 of the Nantes tramway.
Did you know that in 1879 Nantes was the first city to be equipped with a mechanically powered tramway, while other networks consisted of horse-drawn trams? Nicknamed the 'yellow peril' for the numerous dangers it posed, the Nantes tramway was discontinued in 1958 (INA archives) and in the narrow streets of Nantes, you can still see rosettes—those anchors embedded in building façades to hold the cables that supported the electrical wires feeding the tram motors.
After rolling through the streets of Nantes from 1913 to 1968, and later being transformed into a holiday home under the maritime pines of Saint-Brevin for half a century, car no. 366 of the Nantes tramway once again welcomes the footsteps and laughter of travelers. Connected to its beautiful red locomotive by a footbridge, it accommodates up to four people. A double bedroom in the tram and two single beds in the beautiful red locomotive's driver's cabin await you.
