Demeure de la Vignole

Troglodyte hotel between Chinon and Saumur

Presentation Practical information
The crazy charm of a 15th-century troglodyte village overlooking the Loire Valley: a suite in a 3* residence

At 5 km from the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, near the castles of Montsoreau and Saumur, the troglodytic village of Turquant clings to the hillside, overlooking the Loire Valley. In the heart of the Saumur Champigny vineyard, this charming and authentic residence has been listed as a historical monument since 1968.

Mr. and Mrs. Bartholeyns have restored this 15th-century troglodytic village - with parts dating back to the 12th century - centered around the manor house. In 1474, it belonged to Jean de la Vignole, who was chosen by King René of Anjou as executor of his will. Now serving as the owners' residence, it also houses some of the guest rooms.

Two suites, including one family suite, two rooms, an apartment, and a 'troglodytic' cottage with noble materials, old parquet floors, and personalized decor will make you feel comfortably cut off from the world.
Our favorite is the two-story troglodytic suite, which was the manor staff's quarters in the 15th century. It features a spacious living room and a beautiful bathroom with glass mosaic tiles and a corner bathtub on the ground floor. You can reach the bedroom via a spiral staircase with about twenty steps. From the terrace on the rock, the site opens up to you.

In this 3-star hotel, no matter which room you choose, you'll enjoy relaxing in an amazing swimming pool carved into the tuffeau and heated to 25°C.
