Unusual night on the Old Port
Presentation
Practical information
Yes, but I sleep on the Old Port... with the sea and the boats !
Since more than 2600 years, the Old Port has been the stage of Marseille's life. Closely linked to its port, the city has developed around it. La Canebière, the Abbey of Saint Victor, the Panier district, the Arcenaulx, the forts Saint-Jean and Saint-Nicolas bear witness to this. Even if its redevelopment for Marseille-Provence 2013 sparked some debate, the people of Marseille still cherish it just as much.
And in the center of this Old Port, what do we find?
Boats, more boats, always boats!
Sailing or motor-powered, wooden hull or aluminum hull, fishing-pleasure or pointu, ancient or cutting-edge (gabian’s latest cry?)... so many boats that for one night (for some) transform into an unusual guest room!
Climb aboard a sailboat or a yacht and spend the night rocked by the mistral, the clinking of halyards on the masts, and the hoarse cry of the gabian; this is the program offered by Marseille Insolite, a company specializing in the intermediation between happy boat owners and happy travelers looking for unique accommodations. All this in partnership with Soleil Rouge Yachting, one of the specialists in boat rental and sale in Marseille and Ajaccio.
Nothing to envy to its hotelier cousins, onboard you’ll find the comfort of a room: double bed, bathroom and toilet, kitchen equipped with a refrigerator, a lounge-dining area... not to mention the must-have of must-haves, even better than “sitting on the porch”... the terrace above the water.
For those who don’t yet know the Old Port and haven’t opened a map of the city: it’s directly accessible by metro, especially from Saint-Charles Station. Restaurants, theaters, Mucem, little train, and all the trimmings... everything is within reach.
Undoubtedly the best address to radiate through the Phocaean city.
“Yes but I sleep on the Old Port, with the sea and the boats” (free interpretation of the song “A la Ciotat” by Moussu T).
