Occitan holidays at the Chateau de Fajac la Selve.
Between Toulouse and Carcassonne, stay in the colorful rooms of this renovated old Occitan castle.
The people have arrived at the castle, "le peuple est arrivé au château".
The motto of the Chateau de Fajac la Selve estate is particularly evident since the said castle now houses 3 guest rooms, and cottages and caravans have taken up residence in its park.
Built in the 16th century on the site of an old Cistercian priory, the castle has long enjoyed a famous reputation in the region. Mentions of its English garden can be found in Toulouse newspapers as early as 1890.
Still as majestic as ever, the surrounding forest is home to around ten varieties of orchids and numerous native birds. Booted eagles, Eurasian eagle-owls, and griffon vultures are the guardians of the area.
They can be observed at leisure from the terrace, in the shade of the wisteria.
Behind the intact walls, the atmosphere is no longer that of Cistercian austerity. Elegance is combined with a touch of whimsy, and the walls are colorful. As for the priory’s well, it has been replaced by a swimming pool. Morning ablutions can still be performed there, but prayer is no longer mandatory.
