An old convent Hotel & Spa

Presentation Practical information
A 17th-century convent reconnects with its history, that of the botanical discoveries of the Minimes brothers, and transforms into a 5-star hotel & Spa.

The Couvent des Minimes watches over a marvelous site surrounded by terraced gardens from the 17th century. These same gardens where the Minimes brothers cultivated and studied hundreds of plant species when the convent was founded for their order.

With the Franciscan sisters, two centuries later, came the time of fruit trees, vines, cereals, beehives, and even a model farm which they tended with care. These missionaries traveled the world and returned to Mane, a small Provençal village, where their hospice also welcomed residents. In 1999, being too few in number and too old to continue caring for the convent, they left it.

Meanwhile, in Manosque (barely 20 km further south), Olivier Baussan discovered the art of distillation -rosemary, cade, lavender, olive tree-, and embarked on the production of essential oils and artisanal soaps. Thus, he founded L'Occitane in 1976, a company that would continue to grow until it purchased this convent in 2004.

The architecture of the site is of great beauty, marking the transition between the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Extensively restored and perfectly preserved thanks to the expertise of local artisans and the Compagnons du Tour de France, the convent houses Le Couvent des Minimes Hotel et Spa 5 étoiles (since 2008) and its 46 rooms and suites with simple and modern decor. The most astonishing suite is hidden in the bell tower of the church!

Reconnect with nature, recharge at the Spa L’Occitane, let yourself be enveloped by the Provençal sun, the scented aromas of lavender, rosemary, verbena, honey, the song of cicadas, marvel under this pure sky of a thousand stars, stroll through the Forcalquier market, and savor goat cheeses aged with savory… You’ll know how to complete it!
