Practical information
Carthusian monastery near Lake Constance
The canton of Thurgau is the largest fruit-growing region in Switzerland. It is adorned with a thousand flowers from April to May during the blooming of its orchards, a bloom celebrated every May 1st in the village of Altnau with the "Bluescht-Fäscht".
Thurgau is also often associated by beer enthusiasts with the monastic brewery Fischingen. A perfect opportunity to spend a night in the former priory of Ittingen, where 900 years of history await you.
The former castle first became an Augustinian monastery and was then converted into a charterhouse at the beginning of the 15th century. The Carthusian monks then lived in 14 cells lined up around the cloister until 1848. Today, these cells are also rooms open to guests seeking an experience among vineyards and orchards to share as a couple.
In the Thur valley, just a few minutes from Frauenfeld and Lake Constance, the former convent, meticulously restored with its galleries, cellars, and baroque church, houses two museums, a restaurant labeled "0 Kilometer Production," its own dairy, a medicinal garden, a maze, and the largest rose garden in Switzerland (thousands of rose bushes from over 250 species).
