Sleep in a cabin in the Puy de Dôme
Presentation
Practical information
Back to basics thanks to alternative architecture.
Four young architects and childhood friends -Mathilde, Julien, Lise, and Sébastien- return to the lands they hold dear to build cabins that are part of the site's history: the hamlet of Le Bois Basalte.
Wood, because these unique (they designed and built them!) and fun cabins are made of wood in a wooded environment. And basalt in reference to the volcanic rock from Auvergne that was extracted right here, on the site of the former basalt quarry in the village of Sauterre.
From this piece of land at 900 m altitude, the views are breathtaking over the Puys mountain range, the Sancy massif, and the Forez hills. People come here for peace and to live closer to nature, on the edge of a forest of ash, birch, wild cherry, beech, and hazel trees. Contemporary cabins for two or cabins for four, all are equipped with clever stools, tables, and other integrated storage spaces and are heated by a wood stove. The Latite cabins, cozy nests for two, consist of two stacked spaces. The Olivine cabins with their two alcoves can accommodate up to four people.
From June to September, a beautiful circular tent with a 5m diameter has opened for a glamping experience for 2, 3, or 4.
With the same desire to enhance local heritage, the talented team rehabilitated the crusher of the old mine into a multipurpose space recounting the site's history, an achievement made possible through crowdfunding on Ulule (2013). Since opening, the sauna has been added, and the guest table welcomes diners on weekends by reservation. A Norwegian bath will soon follow to complete the services offered.
Innovative and eco-responsible, this hamlet naturally brings new life to the village of Manzat, uniting elected officials and residents who are so attached to this exceptional site. And Le Bois Basalte is a Doume counter, the local currency of the Puy de Dôme, supporting the local economy of the territory. Get your Doumes ready!
