An artwork to live in
Presentation
Practical information
An artwork to inhabit in the middle of the woods to sleep in contact with nature.
In the heart of the Meuse forest, initiated by six agricultural and forest villages (Dompcevrin, Fresnes-au-Mont, Lahaymeix, Nicey-sur-Aire, Pierrefitte-sur-Aire, and Ville-devant-Belrain), Vent des Forêts carries out a bold human and cultural project. This project emphasizes encounters and the work of contemporary visual artists with the local population, alternately as volunteers and host families for artists-in-residence.
To explore this open-air contemporary art space, seven trails (ranging from 1 to 4 hours of walking) lead you to discover around a hundred works that punctuate a hilly and wooded countryside.
Among them, the Maisons Sylvestres, a public commission by designer Matali Crasset, invite you to stop for a night to prolong the experience, immerse yourself in the forest to discover it differently, observe it, and dream within it. The houses blend into the undergrowth for which they were designed, thanks to the craftsmanship of talented artisans and the choice of prioritized regional materials (cladding and shingles—traditional tiles—made of Douglas wood, ash wood, oak, or acacia).
At the Nichoir, a house covered in wooden shingles, you can lie in the hammocks of the structure to listen to jays and all the birds whistling in this hollow of the valley. The Noisette 2, resembling an acorn placed on the ground, is more suited for observing passing wildlife. Each of these houses accommodates up to 4 people for an overnight stay in contact with nature.
A third house under construction, La Chrysalide, is eagerly awaited!
Vent des Forêts offers an experience for nature lovers, art enthusiasts, and the curious to discover freely on foot or by mountain bike from March to mid-October. To plan your visit, trail maps can be downloaded here.
