Station Bac Saint-Maur
Presentation
Practical information
Rediscover the charm of the 30s and the sleeper car at La Gare des Années Folles near Lille.
At La Gare des Années Folles, a curious wagon, which one might think escaped from the railway museum, has taken its place near the former Bac Saint-Maur station.
This old sleeper car from the 1930s has regained its former function, even though it is a fine collector's item with a twin sister displayed at the Railway Museum in Mulhouse.
While the construction of these O.C.E.M.-type wagons dates back to the 1920s, their delivery took place in the 1930s. The Paris-Lyon-Méditerranée Company - the famous P.L.M. - built a small series of 14 sleeper cars that competed with the Compagnie des Wagons Lits.
With particularly refined interiors, these sleeper cars, known as 'First Class Sleeper Cars,' catered to the needs of wealthy European travelers. At that time, how else to easily connect Paris to the 'French Riviera' than by night train?
Since 1995, this sleeper car has joined the Bac-Saint-Maur station to once again welcome evening (or longer!) travelers aboard its seven rooms decorated with marquetry, precious woods, reading lights, and charming corner sinks.
The restaurant of La Gare des Années Folles reopened in September 2016 after a year and a half of closure. A new team is in charge of the kitchen and is considering, eventually, relaunching the unique overnight stays aboard the wagon.
