Unusual night in the Pas de Calais
Presentation
Practical information
Set sail for the Opal Coast for a unique destination: the huts of La Grenouillère.
No matter how remote this village may seem to you, once you have arrived, you will have forgotten the time it took to get there.
In Madelaine-sous-Montreuil, Alexandre Gauthier, a genius chef, has been shaking up the codes of gastronomy and hospitality since he took over the family home in the early 2000s. Between paternal dishes, tasting menus (€105 for 9 courses), and signature dishes, Alexandre Gauthier is unanimously praised.
The new La Grenouillère was unveiled in 2011. Since then, while you might think you are entering a quaint inn with a white façade, you find yourself in the restaurant's dining room, modern under its large metal and glass marquee, open to a kitchen where, as night falls, everything plays out in chiaroscuro. To stage the creativity of this Michelin-starred and five Gault&Millau toques chef, an architect of his caliber was needed. Patrick Bouchain was this magician.
He is also the one responsible for the well-hidden huts in the gardens, nodding to the small hunting cabins of the surrounding marshes. All in wood, modern and rustic, they are true love nests where all ostentatious signs are hidden.
The flat screen? Under a bag.
The Nespresso machine? Inside a chest.
The XXL bathtub? Under the floor!
And from your bed, a view of the wild grasses in the garden.
After such a journey to the land of senses, you will love the village of Madelaine-sous-Montreuil.
