Unusual night on a polar sailboat
Presentation
Practical information
Are you ready for an unusual stay on a polar sailing ship trapped in the ice of Svalbard?
Living a few days in the Svalbard archipelago, northwest of Norway, is an adventure in itself as your bearings are completely disrupted. Adding a night aboard the Noorderlicht, a two-masted ship intentionally frozen in the Arctic spring ice, makes your stay absolutely unique.
Imagine touching the Arctic, these pristine Svalbard landscapes with shades of blue and white and such a unique light, and why not, having the chance to cross paths with a reindeer, an Arctic fox, or even a polar bear?
The ship is located in the magnificent Tempel fjord; to reach it, an expedition by dog sled or snowmobile is organized departing from Longyearbyen, about 60 km to the southwest. In this ice desert, far from everything, the 10 cabins still feature heating, electricity, bathrooms (with hot water!), lounges, and a bar to share some conviviality, as well as a chef.
Or how to access the magic of polar landscapes without having to improvise as "adventurers" ツ
You can sleep there from mid-February to mid-May, depending on weather conditions. An essential site to visit for planning your trip, VisitSvalbard.

From late February to March 2016, the Noorderlicht is sailing in the Lofoten. We’ll have to wait until 2017 to see it frozen again in the Svalbard ice.
