Floating glass hotel project
Presentation
Floating snowflake in sight for 2016
Krystall will be a glass-roofed hotel, floating between two fjords in northern Norway. The architecture firm of Koen Olthuis, Waterstudio, and the Dutch developers Dutch Docklands - both specializing in floating structures - have received the green light to build this luxury hotel on the waters of the Arctic Circle.
In this precious environment, impact is naturally a key concern. The hotel will be built in dry dock and then positioned in place. Designed to be self-sufficient, it will leave no lasting footprint on its location.
On this 120m diameter snowflake accessible only by boat, all the amenities of a 5-star hotel and 86 minimalist rooms will be available. But they will be bordered by the sea, and their glass roof will offer a perfect view of the sky in this part of the world, one of the best places to observe the Northern Lights.
The group responsible for managing this first floating hotel in Europe has not yet been revealed, and the opening date, initially planned for 2015, has been postponed. We will keep you informed.
