Cabins and trimaran in Norway
Presentation
Practical information
For adventure lovers
An archipelago of small islets scattered in the Grøtøya Strait, you are in northern Norway, far beyond the Arctic Circle.
Manshausen is a very small hotel on a private island owned since 2010 by Børge Ousland, the Norwegian polar explorer (the first to cross Antarctica solo, also the first to reach the North Pole in winter with Mike Horn).
To connect with nature, highlight the beauty of this landscape, and minimize environmental impact, Borge Ousland entrusted the design of his cabins to architect Snorre Stinessen. Intimate cabins with a contemporary look featuring large glass windows at the front and sides, which amaze travelers and architecture lovers from around the world.
Five of them directly overlook the water and seem to balance on the coastline, while the other two, located higher up, offer magnificent open views of the sea and mountains.
On this island, which once housed a fishing port, the old stone quays from the early 18th century have been preserved. The traditional farmhouse has also been renovated and now houses all the infrastructure for the comfort of guests. Next to the dining room is a library of expedition books, largely from Borge Ousland's personal collection.
Northern Passage
The trimaran Northern Passage, aboard which Norwegians Børge Ousland, Thorleif Thorleifsson, and their five crew members made the circumnavigation of the North Pole in the summer of 2010, is moored at Manshausen. Departing from Oslo, it completed the Northeast Passage and the Northwest Passage before returning to Norway. Over 10,000 miles in less than 4 months amidst the ice, a loop made possible in such a short time only due to the melting ice.
Since 2016, this trimaran has been moored at Manshausen, and its double cabin allows for an overnight stay onboard.
You guessed it, this island is a dream for adventure and wide-open space lovers. While winter nights allow you to see the northern lights, the orange summer sky is just as magnificent. Throughout the seasons, without leaving the island, you can enjoy fishing (cod, saithe, mackerel, halibut), diving, kayaking, swimming on the private beach with the white sand that made Steigen famous, or in the seawater pool. Year-round, a sauna and Nordic bath are also available.

Comments
Before reaching the island of Manshausen, you need to get to Bodø (by plane, by car, but there is also an Oslo-Bodo night train). From Bodø to Nordskot, you can choose between ferry (1h30) and car (3h30). You are almost there, a boat will pick you up for the last crossing between the small village of Nordskot and Manshausen.
