A lighthouse in the middle of the Saint Lawrence
Presentation
Practical information
Set sail on the Saint Lawrence Lighthouse Trail.
Among the approximately 43 traditional lighthouses in Quebec, the majority stand along the coastline of the St. Lawrence Estuary or on one of the islands of Québec Maritime, environments of great beauty for this estuary that is unlike any other in the world.
Fresh and salt waters mix over nearly 300 km, with varied underwater beds and strong tidal currents, creating favorable conditions for living species: about ten species of marine mammals as well as around twenty species of water birds coexist here, including eiders, black guillemots, common murres, herring gulls, double-crested cormorants, common loons, common terns, American mergansers, black ducks, teal, velvet scoters, and herons, among others.
The starting point of our lighthouse route, the Pot-à-l'Eau de Vie islands, an archipelago in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region.
Next to Gros Pot and Petit Pot, where public access is prohibited, access to the Pot-à-l'Eau de Vie island and its historic lighthouse is a unique experience for nature lovers.
Built in 1862 by Louis Déry opposite Fraserville (now Rivière-du-Loup), abandoned in 1964, restored from 1989 onwards, it is now classified as federal heritage. Three charming rooms welcome guests arriving from Rivière-du-Loup: guided tours and delicious cuisine are included in the package offered by the Société Duvetnor, a non-profit organization involved in ecotourism in this region of the Bas-Saint-Laurent islands.
Enjoy a few hours in the heart of unspoiled nature: the ferry will pick you up early tomorrow afternoon.
