Village Inuit Williwaw

Sleeping in a real igloo in the Hautes-Alpes

Presentation Practical information
Ambiance thrill of the great north under the starry sky of the Hautes-Alpes: the immensity of the landscape and a tête-à-tête with the Moon will make this night a magical moment.

In the Haut-Champsaur valley, at the gates of the Écrins National Park, a peculiar village awaits us.
Wearing snowshoes or taking the chairlift, we reach this Inuit village on the Roche Rousse plateau at an altitude of 2,300 m by the end of the day. As the last skiers descend to the resort, Philippe Desmurger (a certified mountaineering and mushing instructor) welcomes us, and the outdoor adventure can begin.
To admire the sunset over the Alps, a 1.5-hour snowshoe hike is all it takes! It's a leisurely hike, meant for enjoyment, just enough to work up an appetite for the raclette awaiting us. Cheese and charcuterie from the Hautes-Alpes—a treat, according to connoisseurs. Then comes the long-awaited moment of heading to your igloo for the night, a night that will be chilly, around 2°, but thanks to the extreme cold sleeping bag, everything will be fine.

Children are welcome (from 8 years old); they will love the dog sled ride to end the day. From an initiation to a full hike, all options are available. Information directly on the site Alpi Traineau.
