Stay in a trapper's cabin
Presentation
Practical information
True to the spirit of the -kind- trappers, between driftwood and seal skins.
The Svarland archipelago is one of the northernmost lands in the world. It is said that there are fewer people here than the 3000 polar bears counted! Protected since 1973, they represent a symbol but also a very tangible danger for residents and hikers.
The capital of this territory, attached to Norway since 1920, is Longyearbyen, a city to stay as a basecamp before heading out on expeditions in the Far North. In this wild, sometimes austere nature, one can see traces of whalers, Russian or Norwegian trappers, reflecting a past when wildlife was not preserved. Today, there are only two trappers left in Spitsbergen, and wildlife is under strict protection!
To stay in the atmosphere, in this small hotel with a trapper style, the 18 rooms and suites are simple and fun, reproducing the rustic side with driftwood, seal skins, photos, and objects illustrating the life of trappers, explorers, and Arctic adventurers.
Here, no television, but an abundance of northern lights in season! Between autumn and spring, they illuminate the sky, and Svalbard is one of the rare places on earth to see them also during the day. At the bar of the Trappers'Hotel, the roof is glassed, settle in, and the midnight sun is yours too.
