As surprising as it is inaccessible, this module seems to be balancing on Mont Blanc.
This surprising structure is an unguarded refuge located on the Italian side of the Mont-Blanc massif, at an altitude of 2835 m.
Named in honor of the Italian mountaineer Giusto Gervasutti, 'il fortissimo,' it replaces the 1948 refuge built about 600 m lower on this Freboudze (Frébouge) glacier and presented at the alpine museum of the Duke of the Abruzzi in Courmayeur, although it remains visible on IGN maps...
3-4 hours of walking are required from the hamlet of Fréboudze to reach this spectacular setting and access this modern refuge composed of a modular structure of 30 m2 accommodating up to 12 people and powered by photovoltaic panels. The door is always open, and next to the traditional guestbook, there is an internet connection to collect data on the bivouac's environmental conditions.
Starting point for the Aiguille de Leschaux, the col des Hirondelles, or the Grandes Jorasses - Pointe Walker.
